Passive Lobotomy Press zine interview 10-4-96
If you haven't heard of FLOATER by now, you might possibly be one of the few. FLOATER are a up & coming trio from Eugene, which have been around for a bit, so I guess the phrase "up & coming" is relative. Nonetheless here is an interview with this fun loving family band.
All quetions were answered by Rob via. email 10-4-96.
PLP: Who is FLOATER?
FLOATER: A band from Eugene, OR. David plays guitar, Peter plays drums, Robert plays bass and voice.
PLP: What is your current discography?
FLOATER: Full length Albums: "Sink" and "Glyph" also on Compilations from Elemental records, Airforce records, New Skool volume 1 and NAIL. Radio Edit CD of 3 radio songs edits plus "B-side".
PLP: In your homeland of Eugene what is you favourite venue to play at, and why?
FLOATER: Probably the WOW Hall. Or maybe our practice pad.
PLP: Do you have a collective band phobia, either being afraid of other bands, or a shared fear as a band?
FLOATER: Fear that the audience will someday turn their strange violence upon us. They are meanies sometimes.
PLP: What do you think of the Evil Sister Saloon in Bend, OR, and do you plan to play any acoustic gigs in the future?
FLOATER: The Evil Sister is run by wonderful people and is a cool place, but we in the band don't like it when crowds turn mean and stupid. I don't know why, but this has a tendency to happen there. The crowd there is very viking and wild. That's great for them, but we are basically into the Floater show as a cinematic experience. We like it dark and moody and most importantly we really need our equipment safe and intact. When people abuse our gear we just leave and don't want to come back. That's not what we're about. We're really not very punk, I guess. (You're goddam right!PLP/MAX) As far as plans for acoustic shows, we're just taking things as they come. We play what we like and that may someday be done, but who knows?
PLP: Does the term "Floater" have a scatalogical, pathological, or other meaning?
FLOATER: When I lived in Florida for a while, it was a term down there used for people who drift through life. Sort of lost bits of the machine.
PLP: If you could sum up Floater's intended effects upon the listener in 5 words or less, what would you say?
FLOATER: Feel without shame. Worship your lust for life. (Hey! That's 8 words!PLP/MAX)
PLP: Do any of you all collect/read comics, and if so, which ones?
FLOATER: I don't collect comics, but I can't speak for the other guys.
PLP: What do you think of the "new" Metallica?
FLOATER: Any band that tries to do the same thing year after year, album after album is dead. I say, good luck to them and I hope they stick to what they love.
PLP: Do you like Ren or Stimpy better?
FLOATER: Stimpy is cute, but Ren has more dark meat.
PLP: Favourite Gamera movie?
FLOATER: What the hell is that?
PLP: What are you opinions of hemp legalization?
FLOATER: The world is growing more and more stupid every day in my eyes for allowing it to be illegal.
PLP: What are some future goals that you wish to accomplish?
FLOATER: Make better music.
PLP: What other musicians or nonmusical sources would you possibly site as influences in creating your music?
FLOATER: I watch people. Only recently have they started watching me.
PLP: Have any of you ever had any extra-terrestrial experiences?
FLOATER: Not that I can concsiously remember.
PLP: Closing comments?
FLOATER: Thanks for taking an interest in what we're doing. It is appreciated.
